If you go to Lisse, you go to Keukenhof. Of course, so do we, but in a slightly different way. We take a particularly varied circular walk through the castle park and the estate forest, past bulb fields and along beautiful meadow paths in the polder. We walk from Lisse's former railway station directly onto the boot path through the Grote Looster wood. Fortunately, we can soon leave the tourist frenzy around the flower expo behind us as we walk to Keukenhof Castle. Here, too, the tulips are in bloom. The authentic dunewalls behind the castle are imposing. High hills and colossal, old trees. For a change, we then get a series of beautiful bulb fields. The colour contrasts are dazzling. But even outside the flower season, the play of lines on the sandy fields is a feast. Boxes of flower bulbs stand in front of the barn. A little further, you walk through wet and rugged forest on Het Zuid-Hollands Landschap's Wassergeest estate. Here and there we climb over fallen trees on the narrow path. The last part of this short Snail Walk goes through the meadows of Wassergeest and Keukenhof. On the way, we walk right past the Lageveense Molen, a beautiful teeter-totter mill that you can also see from the train. Schiphol Airport and the railway line are not far away and you can hear it. But oh well, 85% unpaved in the Bulb Region is quite special!
